Concearneau in South West Brittany is a thriving town with plenty of buzz in the summer months.
The harbour is dominated by the medieval "ville close" a fortified town in the centre of the harbour. This is now a major tourist attraction and it is well worth a visit. There are all sorts of speciality shops, cafes, chocolate museum and maritime museum.
There is also a pleasure port and a working commercial port.
Concarneau itself has a good selection of modern shops, restaurants etc.
Concarneau is also famous for its corniche - the road follows the coastline giving fantastic views and access to the lovely beaches of Les sables blanc and the beaches of the Cabellou peninsula.
Pont Aven, the artists village is also worth a visit, if you can tear yourself away from the fantastic beaches!!
